About our Action Community
Mankato and North Mankato became an ACT on Alzheimer’s community in 2014 and is led by a group of volunteers that make up the Action Team. The Action Team is committed to creating a dementia-friendly community that is engaging, safe, respectful and informed.
The Action Team represents several sectors of the community: community members with a personal connection to the disease, MSU-Mankato, home- and community-based services providers, long-term care providers, aging services, businesses and government agencies. Twin Rivers Council for the Arts serves as its fiscal agent.
The Action Team has organized training for several sectors of the community including faith communities, health care, businesses, community members and law enforcement. The Action Team is committed to bringing ongoing education to community.
The Action Team began Singing Hills Chorus in 2017 and was the first community in greater Minnesota to implement the Giving Voice Initiative toolkit. In 2019, MSU-Mankato faculty partnered with the Action Team and the Living Earth Center to establish a dementia-friendly garden in the community.
The Action Team is committed to creating more meaningful engagement opportunities in the community. These opportunities will be designed for people living with Alzheimer's or related dementias to experience with friends and family members.
