About our Action Community

We are in the very beginning process of becoming a Dementia Friendly Community. Our Age Friendly Alexandria Organization is now working on making Alexandria a Dementia Friendly Community. We are excited to learn more about what other Dementia Friendly Communities are doing. The Dancing Sky Agency on Aging is working with us.

Snapshot of Recent Activities

  • Our Elder Network group has provided tablets to many of their clients so they can visit with their families during the pandemic.
  • Our Habitat For Humanity group has begun an Aging in Place program to help residents stay in their homes as long as possible. They work with the hospital to help build ramps for people who have had surgery requiring wheelchairs and also help residents by making their homes safer with grab bars in bathrooms, etc.
  • Our volunteers make made many phone calls and sent cards to the elderly living alone when they could not visit because of the pandemic.
  • We developed a program called Ready Ride with help from West Central Minnesota Communities Action to help rural elders have rides into town for doctor appointments or to shop for groceries, etc.
